For our fitness girlies trying their best to be sustainable in their second home – the gym or their studio of choice, this is for you! It doesn’t have to be hard or complicated all it needs is a little bit of research of looking for better alternatives, and that’s what we’re here for.
How to become a more sustainable gym bro or fitness girlie:

- Bring your own reusable water. Most if not all gyms will have a water fountain so save your money and save the earth one less plastic bottle at a time. For a list of our favorite water bottles, check this link here.
- Bring your own protein shake/r. By now you know that most packaged protein shakes contain hidden sugars and additives, they don’t taste the best either. Have full control of what goes into you body and make/bring your own protein shakes. For our vegans, there are tons of options out there, a few of our favorites are:
- Ka’chava All-in-One Protein Shake – filling and contains adaptogens that keeps you alert and focused throughout the day without the jitters. It’s also an all-in-one shake so if you’re in a bind it’s a good temporary meal or snack.
- Cymbiotika – supports gut health and help boosts recovery, good as a stand alone but best taken as a shake blended with your favorite fruits.
- KOS Organic Plant Protein – sustainably-sourced vegan protein powder that comes in a variety of flavors
- Beam Vegan Protein Powder – arguably the yummiest protein powder especially if you have a sweet tooth in the market to date. With flavors like Brown Butter, PB Smoothie, Birthday Cake, dessert in a shaker!

- Want to take it another step? Ditch the protein and supplement plastic tubs for better alternatives that are – refillable, compostable, recycled containers. Where to find those, you might ask?
- Check your local refilling stations, most would carry protein powders.
- Form Nutrition Protein Powder – plant-based protein powder that comes in a plastic-free, home compostable stand-up pouch.
- Complement Protein Powder – they claim to be the cleanest protein powder and takes pride in their transparency with ingredients. Protein powders have only 5 protein food proteins, nothing else! Pouch is 100% biodegradable and compostable too.
- Bare Blends Protein Powder – made with the finest, cleanest ingredients from Australia. this Whey protein powder does not disappoint. Packaging is 100% home compostable too!

- Bring your own sweat towel. Single-use wipes can take a minimum of 100 years to decompose.
- Know your sportswear. Choose brands that use natural fabrics or recycled materials, they exist and are in fact as comfy as the poly-plastic ones. Hot tip – you know that details drop-down button when your online shopping? Click that to better understand your fabrics and the material composition of your clothing. Read more about fabrics to understand what you’re “consuming”.
- Girlfriend Collective – size inclusive sportswear, made out of recycled post-consumer materials like plastic bottles, fish nets, fabric scraps, etc.
- Pangaia – first in the market to use bio-based materials sourced from beans and not from fossil fuels.
- AllBirds – Certified B-corp company that focuses on carbon transparency and has a strong carbon neutral goal which they’re hitting btw. All items are made out of (recycled) sustainable materials using renewable energy.
- Wolven – fashion-forward sportswear made out of post-recycled plastic materials, ethically manufactured in a small batch in Los Angeles.

- Support your local gym or fitness studio. Having a gym close-by ensures that you will be able to go more frequently (no excuses!) at any time and will be accessible to walk/bike at. Classpass is a great app/program to check out gyms within your location, you get to try a variety of studios and workouts too before committing to one, or not.
- Give feedback and work with your local gym to promote sustainable practices. Advocate for the Earth in your way and start the conversation.
See – that wasn’t too bad was it? And remember, progress over perfection always! As long as you take a step towards becoming more sustainable, the Earth thanks you for it.
