For those curious but ridiculously intimidated by going vegan, Veganuary that happens for the whole month of January is always a good place to start, but it doesn’t have to only happen in January. You can start anytime that works best for you and hopefully these tips will help you along the way!
- Meal plan and try to stick to it as much as you can. Keep it easy, simple and enjoyable.
- Make a list of what you like and what you don’t like to better understand your palette and needs. To make meals more enjoyable, add ingredients that you love whether it’s basil or an extra head of garlic, this is your time to explore and have fun doing it.
- Be open-minded and try something at least twice! You might like it better the second time around in a different format or cook. Hot tip: grill those cabbage heads, serve with a slather of hummus on top… YUM!
- Research and never stop learning. Whether its new recipes, new products to try, following vegan influencers and chefs. Keep it exciting, never stop exploring and stay informed.
- Have a staple, easy, simple, favorite dish. If all else fails, resort to that. We don’t have infinite amounts of time and most of us “fall off the wagon” when there’s “nothing to eat” so make sure to have simple, yummy dishes that can be whipped up in seconds when we’re rearing our hangry heads.
- Share your favorite dish with your partner, room mate, loved one. Having a positive support system to enjoy this journey with makes a whole lot of difference! It truly is the more, the merrier.
- Make friends with your local shops and businesses where you buy your products. You’ll never know what you learn from making small talk! Don’t care to be friendly? It’s fine, just be kind, always.
And probably the most important tip of it all, have fun and give yourself grace when needed. Whatever your reason or motivation is for going and staying vegan know that it’s a process, it will never be perfect but your journey is uniquely yours alone! Have fun with it and stay humble.
